Pride Wide is seeking members of the Pride Wide Global Governors’ Council, UK and US Boards of Trustees.

About Pride Wide

Pride Wide is a nonprofit publisher, broadcaster and growth consultancy, advancing LGBTQIA+ rights and lives.

Structure

Pride Wide is formed of Pride Wide Trust (registered charity in England and Wales, 1208890), Pride Wide Inc (registered nonprofit in Delaware, currently registering for 501(c)(3) status) and Pride Wide CIC (nonprofit Community Interest Company, registered in England and Wales).

The Board of Trustees

The Board of Trustees oversees the strategy and governance of Pride Wide, ensuring the charity delivers its mission and adheres to its values of unity, openness, and excellence. It acts as the ultimate authority for directing the organization, ensuring it remains solvent and well-run.

Global Governors

The boards are part of a wider Global Governors’ Council. This includes international members to ensure that we reflect the diversity of nationalities and cultures which is part of the unique Pride Wide offer. These international members are not able to be UK trustees or US board members for practical reasons.

Notwithstanding this, the UK and US boards take separate votes for governance reasons.

The role of the Trustee

Trustees are responsible for providing appropriate oversight, governance, and leadership. They collaborate on strategy, support the organization with their specific skills and connections, and oversee risk management and financial integrity.

As Pride Wide is a start-up, trustees form a working board, supporting the executive team with their expertise, expanding the organization’s network and engaging in fundraising.

Key responsibilities

Strategy & governance
Oversee the organization’s strategic direction and ensure compliance with legal and regulatory requirements.
Financial oversight
Approve the annual budget, oversee financial controls, and ensure assets are managed responsibly.
Fundraising & movement building

Provide strategic advice and practical support for fundraising and movement building efforts, including identifying prospects and participating in outreach.
Ambassadorship
Act as external champions, leveraging personal and professional networks to build the organization and movement.
Leadership support
Appoint and support senior executive staff, providing expert advice and problem-solving input.
Mission alignment
Ensure all activities strictly advance the charity’s stated charitable purpose for public benefit.

Commitment

Time commitment: Minimum 5 hours per month, although some volunteers offer more.
Meetings: Attendance at board meetings six times a year (approx 90 min), held virtually.
Term: A three-year term, with potential for renewal.

Support

Trustees are supported by:
Board Chairs: The UK Chair of Trustees and the US President of the Board are co-chairs of the Global Governors’ Board. They provide leadership and act as the primary contact for the executive team.
Executive leadership: Provide detailed reporting, strategic plans, and operational support.
Specialized committees: Advice and resources from the Corporate Partnerships Board (corporate partnerships) and Development Council (resources and fundraising).
Working groups: Pride Wide regularly sets up working groups of volunteers to support the development and delivery of projects.

Person specification

Mission commitment
A demonstrable deep commitment to LGBTQIA+ equality and Pride Wide’s mission.
Fiduciary duty
Understanding and acceptance of the legal duties of trustees (Care, Loyalty, Obedience).
Growth and outreach
Willingness to take a hands-on approach to support fundraising targets and movement-building initiatives.
Professional expertise (role dependent)
Skills in areas such as Finance, Law, HR, Fundraising, Sales, Marketing, PR Comms, Community Organising or Activism.
Judgment and integrity
Sound, independent judgment and a commitment to the Nolan Principles of public life.
Network engagement
Willingness to use professional connections to further Pride Wide’s reach and resources.
Ambassadorship
Proven experience representing a charity, business or movement to internal and external stakeholders.
Strategic and advisory
Experience contributing to and executing strategic plans for business development or non-profit resource mobilisation.
Board engagement
Ability to engage constructively in high-level advisory discussions and follow through on committed actions.
Safeguarding and inclusion
Experience in ethical fundraising and safeguarding standards is desirable but not essential. Candidates should be comfortable working across different identities/ geographies.
